Why Your Spouse Needs You To Buy Life Insurance
Many married couples believe they don’t need life insurance, or life cover, unless they have children. This however, is a myth – a myth that could leave your partner in poor financial shape should the worst happen unexpectedly. Life cover can pay for funeral costs-something no spouse should have to consider how they will pay for.
There is a myth that life cover isn’t needed if a couple does not have a mortgage to pay on a home. The surviving spouse, however, may have a difficult time making monthly rental payments on his or her own. If you would like your spouse not to have to worry about this, leave them a lump sum payment so they can buy a house or apartment of their own and not have to worry about rental payments.
Life insurance is not only for couples with children, either. The surviving spouse will have many bills to pay at the very worst time of his or her life. A spouse dying is devastating enough, but a spouse dying and being deep in debt with no hope of getting out of debt is even worse. If your spouse has worked so you could get a university education and a good job, you owe it to them to make sure they would be financially able to do the same should something unexpected happen to you.
If you are younger, life cover is surprisingly affordable and easy to obtain. You can apply online with no medicals required. With instant quotes, you’ll see how little peace of mind can cost you.
Best Gyms Keep Their Clientele Sweet
With Brits who take part in sports and hobbies spending an average of £678 per year, it’s wise for gyms to focus on keeping customers and encouraging new ones.
Research carried out by M&S Money looked at 1,055 UK adults who participate in sport. The discovery was that the most popular activity is going to the gym, followed by swimming and walking or hiking.
The top ten sports were found to be as follows:
- Going to the gym 38% – £38
- Swimming 21% – £26
- Walking / hiking 21% – £26
- Running / athletics 19% – £22
- Cycling / mountain biking 17% – £29
- Football 9% – £27
- Dancing 8% – £29
- Golf 8% – £82
- Tennis 5% – £49
- Snooker / pool 4% – £22
Active Brits take part in sporting activitiesan average of once a week. But those who have gym membershipand regular runners tend to go every 2-3 days.
It is more specialist sports which tend to be the ones carried out every day – like horse riding and martial arts. So even though the most popular activity overall being attending the gym, only 12 per cent of people go every day.
The best gyms are the ones working to encourage more uptake and trying to get people to visit the gym more often.
The Olympics and Paralympics have inspired 23 per cent of people across the UK who already participate in sport to take up even more. Youngsters have been the most enthusiastic, with a fifth of active under 35s already involving themselves in more sport and a further fifth planning to do so.
New passions however can be short lived and over half of the people that took part in survey said they had spent money on a sport they gave up quickly, or missed lots of sessions. Most commonly this problem is with gym membership.
If each of these people had paid for just one month of unused expenses, the total amount wasted across the country would be £632 million.
The best gyms in Manchester have to look at how to get the majority of people to come time and again to the use their facilities and harness the power of the Olympics and Paralympics to keep people interested.

Staying Current In The Nursing Profession
Staying current is important in any health care profession as the industry is dynamic and always changing. A nurse cannot always depend on her employer to keep her up-to-date on every new technology and every new procedure so many nurses rely on nursing magazines to stay abreast of industry changes. Most hospitals schedule training of course, but while at work most nurses are concerned about finishing their work before their shift ends. Sometimes this makes it hard to get the most out of in-service training.
Of course, no nurse could possibly keep up with every new drug, disease, or technology so specialized nursing magazines are very popular. There are magazines for nursing administrators specializing in new management techniques and magazines for clinical nurses, magazines for critical care nurses and more. This ensures each article in a magazine is relevant to a particular nurse interests and job.
Nurses who do home care find nursing magazines especially helpful. If a nurse is not working in a hospital or nursing facility, she misses many training opportunities. It’s also important for home care nurses to feel less isolated and more connected to the profession and to other nurses. This helps prevent nursing burnout, a fact of life in the nursing profession. A nurse who routinely works alone can really benefit from reading about how other nurses handle routine issues and problems that may crop up.
Of course, many nurses simply enjoy reading nursing magazines because the truly care about providing the best possible care to their patients. Hearing how other nurses handle difficult patients or doctors on staff helps alleviate the frustration that often accompanies the nursing profession. Learning a new way to deal with a routine problem can be worth the cost of a subscription for a year if it makes a nurse’s job easier every day.
Why You Should Do Your Research Before Getting Laser Eye Surgery
If you’re considering laser eye surgery, you should definitely read up on the subject before making an appointment at one of the United Kingdom’s many eye clinics. The reason you should research the subject before your initial appointment is because it is quite technical. Not that it’s all that difficult to unerstand but you’ll have a great deal of information presented to you all at once.
Laser eye surgery is a broad term covering several different types of vision correction surgery. There is Lasik surgery, Lasek surgery, Wavefront surgery, PRK eye surgery and LTK eye surgery. You’ll be resented with a dizzying array of options with the advantages and disadvantages of each. If you have a basic knowledge of how laser eye surgery works, it will be much easier to understand all your options.
As you read about laser eye surgery, make a list of questions to ask when you visit an eye clinic. If you’re not given enough time to ask all of your questions, look for a more helpful clinic. When asking your questions, remember, the eye surgeon has the final say on whether or not you’re a good candidate for laser eye surgery of any type. Read as much as you can on vision correction surgery but don’t think you can talk a clinic into doing a specific procedure, the doctors there have one more than research the subject online.
Ask Questions an Read Reviews Before Getting Cosmetic Surgery
Considering getting a cosmetic procedure done? You’ll want to visit several clinics before making a final decision of where to get the procedure done. There is a a wide range of clinics in the UK performing cosmetic surgery, you’ll want to select the best clinic you can afford. It may take several visits to find a clinic where you feel comfortable both with the surgeon and the price.
Do not be afraid to ask questions on your visits. The staff, including the surgeon, at reputable cosmetic surgery clinics, should be willing to explain all aspects of the cosmetic surgery. You will likely have many questions including how quickly you will recover, questions about scarring, and questions about what happens if you’re not happy with your look once the surgery is complete. Don’t allow yourself to be brushed off or pressured by the staff to get the procedure done.
Whichever clinic you feel is best for you, do not sign any papers until you have looked online for reviews from other patients who have had cosmetic surgery done at the same clinic. Don’t wait until you’ve had the procedure done and are unhappy, it’s too late then. One bad review out of a hundred or so shouldn’t bother you though, some people have unrealistic expectations. Look for a clinic that receives good reviews from the majority of their patients and you should be fine.

Sleeping well in diabetics
Poor sleep a night can affect the body’s ability to use insulin to process blood sugar, according to a study that scientists said could help explain why diabetes is increasing. Researchers said their results suggest that it may not be a coincidence that while sleep duration has been shortened in Western societies over the last decade, have also increased cases of “insulin resistance” and late-onset diabetes or adult.
“Our results show that a short night of sleep has more profound effects on metabolic regulation than we thought,” said Esther Donga, director of the University Medical Center, Leiden, the Netherlands, who led the study published Wednesday.
Type 2 diabetes is caused by the body’s inability to properly use insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas, to control glucose from food. Sugar level rises and damages the eyes, kidneys, nerves, heart and major arteries.
The disease, linked to poor diet and lack of exercise, is reaching epidemic levels. It is estimated that 180 million people have diabetes worldwide. Previous studies have found that poor sleep several nights could lead to inefficient use of insulin, but Donga said this is the first study to examine what effect it may have a bad night’s sleep.
The Dutch scientists examined nine healthy subjects, once after eight hours of sleep and again after just four hours. The findings, published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (JCEM), showed that partial sleep restriction during a single night reduced some types of insulin sensitivity by 19 to 25 percent. “Our data indicate that insulin sensitivity is not fixed in the (people) healthy, but depends on the duration of sleep in last night,” Donga wrote in the study.
“In fact, it is tempting to speculate that the negative effects of multiple short nights of sleep on glucose tolerance can be played, at least in part, with one bad night of sleep,” he said.
A study by U.S. scientists published last year found that people who slept less than six hours per night were 4.5 times more likely to develop blood sugar levels abnormal in six years, compared with those who slept more. Experts believe that an adult needs between seven and nine hours of sleep. Donga said further studies are needed to check if improving sleep duration may help stabilize glucose levels in patients with diabetes.
The cellphone and the relationship between parents and children
Having a cell phone is now indispensable. Especially for those who are parents and need the technology to fulfill their role, as it provides monitor their children, mainly adolescents.
But the question that arises here is whether this technology allows more autonomy to its users, or if only one electronic attachment.
To find out, human development professor Robert Weisskirchen, the California State University , conducted a study with 196 pairs of parent and children, whose results were published in the journal “Cyberpsychology, Behavior and Social Networking”.
Why call?
“The phone is now an important part of the role of father. It’s how you stay in touch with the kids, “says” The New York Times “Amanda Lenhart, a researcher at the Pew Research Center Internet. Already in 2009 the 70% of adolescents in the U.S. spoke at least once a day with their parents.
In this country, 75% of young people have a cell phone, often purchased by their parents to stay in touch. Also, parents who are more likely to have one of these devices, compared with other adults.
The wide penetration of this technology led to wonder how she Weisskirchen can affect the dynamics of parent-child relationship. For this purpose, a questionnaire with different types of situations or circumstances in which young people call their parents and vice versa, they should be rated from “never” to “often.”
So, he realized that the nature of the call and whoever makes it can affect this link.
Telephone List
For example, young people mostly call her parents to “ask permission” or warn that they are late. Parents, meanwhile, call to find out where they are, check homework or express their anger at something.
When it is young people who take the initiative to call, this is associated with a better relationship with their parents, whom they consider as a good support near and to those with good communication. Parents feel gratified and calls seem to encourage self-esteem. “When young people are those who call for support or guidance, in general, along with their parents,” says Weisskirchen.
By contrast, if the parent who makes the call to monitor your child, check the fulfillment of their duties or to call attention to something that bothered them, the relationship tends to be more conflict and adolescent self-esteem has lower.
Weisskirchen stresses that the cell is good for the children’s transition to independence.
Results to be considered
Of the 196 couples who were part of the investigation, 13% were father and son, the 11% was composed of father and daughter, 30% mother and child and, finally, 46% mother and daughter.
It is because of this approach to the division of the sample, the findings should be viewed with caution, since most of it is mother-daughter pairs, which may limit generalizations.
The study also leaves out other forms of communication such as text messages (SMS), fixed-line calls and face to face exchanges, which can also be a bias to understand the communication between parents and children today.
Cellular Message: Danger for Teens
Specialists have suggested to parents of adolescents watch for signs of excess in sending text messages from their children, because of concerns that may pose a health risk.
An expert in U.S. teens send 120 text messages a day are more prone to drinking, smoking and sex. Scott Frank said at a scientific conference that the extreme use of text messaging and social networks is linked to higher levels of risk behaviors. A British expert, meanwhile, added that Internet addicts are likely to take some “bad habits.”
Dr. Frank, an expert in Public Health at the School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, polled 4,000 high school students, aged between 13 and 18 years old, who asked about the frequency of use of text messaging and social networks . Frank found that almost 20% sent more than 120 text messages a day school.
These students were more likely to smoke, drink alcohol, take drugs or have sex, according to the specialist told a meeting of the American Public Health Association, held in Denver.
Other sources report that one in 10 teens who send text messages over tend to spend more than three hours of a school day to social networking. In Frank’s words: “The results of this study suggest that when the use of text messages is not controlled … may have a negative impact on the health of young people.” The specialist said: “This should be a warning to parents that their children are not exceeded in the use of cell phone or the Internet.”
Commenting on the study, Catriona Morrison, a lecturer in Experimental Psychology at the University of Leeds, UK, said: “It seems that there is a small but important subgroup of people for whom Internet use is not healthy, but pathological and not improve their lives. “
According to her, “the pattern followed is similar to pathological gambling. It is a competitive behavior that is very similar to other addictions.” Morrison, who has researched the network dependency and depression, says that those who “suffer from an addiction are more likely to suffer from another.”
This could explain “why teens who spend many hours sending text messages or social networks may be more likely to overindulge in alcohol or smoking, said the expert.
